An Overview Of Swim Team Coaching

By Joanna Walsh

Loving the breathtaking scenery that water brings does not automatically make you a good swim coach. It requires more that fantasy for water to be a successful swim coach but the love for water is just a requisite for a successful swim coach career. To excess in this promising career you need to heed to the following advices by a swim team coaching from the city of West Chester PA.

Just like any other sport you need to be an experienced swimmer yourself. How about you take an intensive swimming class yourself and work on sharpening your skills? Remember your team will believe that they can achieve if their coach posses impeccable skills so swallow your pride and take some few swimming classes. By doing so, you will increase your trust in yourself as the coach and impact the same on others.

Paying attention is one of the special gift you need to posses. By doing so you can identify players strengths as well as weaknesses and as the coach identify ways of improving on them. For example, how often do you spot a swimmer performing excellently in backstrokes? If you spot one take your time to encourage them to continue and improve on the same.

You need to assess yourself and the best way of doing this is by devising a mechanism of receiving feedback. Give other people a chance to gauge your performance as a coach. When seeking for a reliable source of information on your performance, your swimmers should be the target. Sometimes it is often hard for them to open up if you are very strict with them, hence it may help if you loosen up and let them talk about how you are faring on with coaching.

As a coach you may be tempted to think of yourself as the best. In fact you are in need of many lessons so be ready to take some not only from fellow coaches but also from your swimmers. In any form of coaching, experience is not measured by the number of years spent in the game, but the number of lessons taken from the game.

Just like in class work where hard work does not guarantee good grades also it does not guarantee success in swimming. There is something admirable in working hard, but when combined with talent the good results can be expected. To excel in coaching swimmers you must identify those who are talented and instill in them the need to work hard on their talent.

Discipline is paramount in any field and coaching is not any exemption. In fact, as the trainer you need to possess more of this. Ensure you demonstrate your discipline by arriving in time for any meeting with your swimmers. Also, ensure that you separate your coaching career from your social life.

Lastly, remember being the lead coach does not make you the most knowledgeable, but an assistant of all who knows about the swimming. Always know that the real coach can only be found inside each individual swimmer . Am hoping that you will enjoy your coaching career.
